Really Short Stories

short stories published in an RSS feed

RSS (Really Simple Syndication or Rich Site Summary) is a way for website authors and content creators to publish notifications of new content in a subscribable feed. These feeds can, for example, allow a user to keep track of many different websites in a single news aggregator. This content may include newscasts, weather reports, blog posts, and podcasts. RSS was originally developed in the late 1990's, and although its name is not widely known outside of the web development community, it is used extensively today. From blogging software like WordPress to podcast services such as Apple Podcasts, Google Play and Spotify, RSS remains a valuable tool in the distribution of new content to the masses.

Through Really Short Stories we explore this method of disseminating updates by hacking the format to publish and distribute complete short stories authored by various artists, in an RSS feed. We look to the history of the mail art movement and artists such as Ray Johnson, seeking to create a distinct system of art dissemination and reception.

Subscribe to the RSS feed ↗ to have new short stories pushed to your news aggregator as they're published. No news aggregator? Although we encourage you to experience this work as intended by utilising a news aggregator (sometimes called feed reader), a web view is provided below. Fear of My Life

An avalanche of questions
intensifies the fear.

My body aches, convulses.
Resolution ain’t near.

My mind betrays me softly
‘till hardship can adhere.

Self doubt’s a famished tiger
and I’m a headless deer.

Lost and Found

life is profound
by getting lost
love is pro-found
by getting found

you can find me
in the lost and found
having a drink
and a think
of becoming un-wound

No Worry

I used to be pretty enough
to constantly go out
with the wrong guy
as if love is something
connected to the eye
when really it's about I
mistook many a guy

no worry

A Circular Image

rounding & arounding
turning corners
hugging curves
limitless options
returning to the same
but different place
again & again
turning over
multiple ideas
surrounding a single focus
a circular image

Drawing

I draw lines
some that connect
others that disconnect
I draw lines
to push the limits
to destroy limitations

I create lines to designate
compartments
organize thoughts
inching up to edges

A Corridor

A corridor of crumbling memories
why did i take that last turn?

Falling headfirst into contiguous thoughts
Was thinking it could be rewritten
To suit the present times
The presence of all time
The emergence of history and future
But some pieces get lost in the shuffle
No longer do they hold a place
They worked better before

Forgetting is Funny

Layers of life
Stacked in piles
Experiences undone
Unneeded for the path ahead

Forgetting is funny
How does it decide to part?
Did I not comfort it?

I am constantly losing
Pieces of life
Shedding them like dropping weight
Dieting
Making space for new

A Delicious Tease

dancing close to the edge
of vulnerability
lapsing into nuance
sweet + dangerous
without a notion
or an umbrella
certain in uncertainty
endlessly repeating
an unstable chair
a mind that continuously
moves around
re/searching possibilities
a delicious tease
a delicious tease

Reimagining the Dream

a future imagined
an alternate reality
imagined once
reprocessed for now
reimagining the dream

Silence

Even the air is quiet
No more words from you
You said your last
The final sentence
The last feeling
The last thought
And now, just silence
Once here
Now gone

The end is silent
Eternal nothingness
No sound
No sign of life
Lost in the abyss of silence
In a mute abyss

Yet there is life in the silence
Voices and images
Flashbacks
A silent film running in slow motion
An endless reel
It doesn’t stop
Your existence is still here

Silence to appreciate noise

Closet

Out of one closet
Into the next
Categories, boxes, classifications
Uniqueness undervalued
Stereotypes reinforced
Homogenised
Shut the door
Shut the door
Shut the door
A misfit amongst misfits

The Dance of the Currents

The dance of the currents. Untamed raw energy moving this way and that. Peaceful disorder motioning beginnings and endings. A superficial foam on this luminous soup of life. A journey with a direction unknown, this dance of life.

Solitude

Gathering around central places, sometimes few, sometimes many. Life in a bubble, oblivious to the outside. Is it a dream? Surreal, yet real. A self-imposed solitude, a solitary togetherness, a society of one.
